Over the past month, we've added four new people to the Gnosis team. That's not just a headcount update; it's a direct response to what we're seeing on the ground in Bermuda right now, on two fronts that might look unrelated but, from where I sit, are actually the same story.
The first is start-ups. We're hearing from more founders setting up on the island who need their technology and infrastructure sorted from day one, and who don't have the time, budget or appetite to build an internal IT function before they've even opened their doors. The second is compliance. Regulated businesses, particularly in insurance and digital assets, are past the point of "getting ready" for the BMA's Operational Cyber Risk Management Code, the Insurance Code of Conduct and PIPA. They're being assessed against them now, and a framework that's still a work in progress isn't preparation anymore; it's a finding waiting to happen.
What connects those two groups is that neither of them wants, or can really justify, a full internal team to solve the problem. A start-up doesn't need a CIO on payroll in year one. A regulated entity doesn't always need a full-time CISO to satisfy the BMA that someone local is genuinely accountable. What they both need is the same thing we've always tried to be: a partner who can slot in, take real ownership, and be there for the long run rather than a one-off project.
That's why we've grown the team the way we have. Shane McDonnell joined us in July as Client Partner, bringing over 25 years in telecoms and technology, including senior roles at Digicel, LinkBermuda and BlackBerry, and a network across Bermuda's corporate and government community that's already opening doors for us. We’ve also extended our team in multiple areas across the company.
Joe Dunk – Hired as CISO to support our Cyber program, focusing on BMA-regulated entities, with a background in Cyber and UK Military Electronic Warfare & Signals Intelligence.
Joe Williams – Hired to support our IT Operations team, focusing on delivering timely solutions to our managed service clients, with a background in the Bermuda reinsurance industry.
Daniel Risen – IP Network Engineer. Hired to support the Engineering team in delivering robust and secure networking solutions.
I'd be lying if I said this was just about adding headcount. It's about making sure that when a founder calls us in their first month on the island, or a compliance officer calls us three weeks before a BMA assessment, we've got the right person to actually help.
We're not done growing. If the last six months are anything to go by, 2026 is going to be a busy year for Bermuda's start-ups and its regulated businesses alike, and we intend to be the team both call first.
